| Model | Statewide license for electrical CONTRACTORS only, held by individuals - Georgia has no state journeyman/master electrician license. Two classes (Board Rule 121-3-.01): Class I (restricted) and Class II (unrestricted). Electrical contracting businesses operate through an individual licensee; employees of a licensed contractor are not individually licensed. FOLLOWUP 4 RESOLUTION (2026-10-25, live-browser read): Class I scope is stated per O.C.G.A. Sec. 43-14-2(10), as enacted by Ga. L. 2026, p. 427, Sec. 2 / SB 553, effective 2026-07-01: electrical-contractor work on residential multifamily structures of not more than two levels or single-family dwellings of up to three levels, provided the structures have single-phase electrical installations which do not exceed 400 amperes at the service drop or the service lateral. |

amendment adoption → 2023 NEC · effective 2027-01-01
DCA has announced further Georgia amendments effective 2027-01-01. The NEC edition does not change.
AMENDMENT LAYER IN MOTION: DCA's announcement of 2024-12-02 states the 2023 NEC took effect 2025-01-01 with no Georgia amendments; DCA's current-codes page now lists the 2023 NEC 'with Georgia Amendments', publishes a Georgia amendment packet to the 2023 NEC (revised 2026-01-01; amendments_url), and has announced further Georgia amendments effective 2027-01-01 - the packet must be checked per cycle. CLASS-SCOPE DISCREPANCY, disclosed not resolved: Board Rule 121-3-.01 (read in the official February 2025 SOS rules bulletin; rules as amended effective 2025-03-19) caps Class I at single-phase installations not exceeding 200 amperes; non-official reproductions of O.C.G.A. Sec. 43-14-2 marked effective 2026-07-01 define Class I by structure type with a 400-ampere cap. Georgia publishes its Code commercially (LexisNexis); the current statutory text was not opened on a .gov source this pass. Permit field blank: permitting/inspection is local and no state electrical permit regime was established on the pages opened. FOLLOWUP 4 - CLASS-SCOPE CONFLICT RESOLVED (2026-10-25, Builder-authorized live-browser pass; supersedes the 'CLASS-SCOPE DISCREPANCY, disclosed not resolved' entry above, which remains as the earlier dated state): O.C.G.A. Sec. 43-14-2 was read firsthand on the official host - the LexisNexis-hosted Official Code of Georgia reached from legis.ga.gov - document 'O.C.G.A. Sec. 43-14-2', heading '43-14-2. [Effective July 1, 2026] Definitions', current through the 2026 Special Session (a CAPTCHA gate was cleared without sign-in). History line: 'Code 1981, Sec. 43-14-2, enacted by Ga. L. 2026, p. 427, Sec. 2/SB 553, effective July 1, 2026.' Subsection (10) defines 'Electrical Contractor Class I' as an individual licensed by the Division of Electrical Contractors to perform electrical-contractor work on residential multifamily structures of not more than two levels or single-family dwellings of up to three levels, 'provided that structures shall have single-phase electrical installations which do not exceed 400 amperes at the service drop or the service lateral.' The Class I cap is therefore 400 amperes, structure-based. The 200-ampere figure is traced: in Sec. 43-14-2 it appears in subsection (3), the 'Conditioned air contracting' definition - a different license definition, not Class I electrical. The SOS-bulletin 200A reading conflated the two definitions. licensing_model now carries the resolved Sec. 43-14-2(10) text with this provenance; license_classes_url is unchanged (the findings record the route - legis.ga.gov to the LexisNexis-hosted Code - and no document URL was recorded to substitute, so none was guessed). Status remains verified, now without the disclosed conflict.
