transition cutoff → 2023 NEC · effective 2025-12-31
Before the 2025 Uniform Code's 2025-12-31 effective date, a transition period allowed compliance with either the 2020 or 2025 Uniform Code. Completed transition, retained as history.
Verified firsthand on the DOS Notice of Adoption page: Code Council adopted the 2025 Uniform Code 2025-07-25 (repealing the 2020 edition); amended notice 2025-12-05 confirms the 2025-12-31 effective date; a transition period before that date allowed compliance with either the 2020 or 2025 Uniform Code. There is no standalone NY electrical code book - electrical requirements ride in the Uniform Code books (2024 I-Code based), which reference NFPA 70-23; NY-specific provisions are integrated into the 2025 NYS Code Books (19 NYCRR Parts 1219-1229). Local governments may adopt more restrictive standards (Executive Law s.379).
