Texas — electrical code & licensing

Partially verified

Partially verified. The amendments URL is blank: the TAC host migrated to an Appian portal the fetch route can't read. §73.100's text (2026 NEC + the one GFCI exception) is established from the Texas Register adoption, but no stable official rule-text URL was captured.

Licensing

ModelState licensing through TDLR - anyone performing electrical work in Texas must be licensed, statutory exemptions aside; license types include apprentice, journeyman, journeyman industrial, journeyman lineman, sign electrician, maintenance electrician, master, master sign, residential wireman, residential appliance installer, and electrical contractor licenses

Permits & inspections

TDLR does not perform inspections; the local licensing/inspecting authority inspects work in its area (TDLR Compliance Guide s.2.1). Where no permit is required, an installation follows the state code in effect on the day installation begins.

Things to watch for

The house red-flag page — doctrine shown wrong, safety-held entries, field-proven practice — is Things to watch for.

Working notes

2026 NEC adoption verified firsthand on the TDLR rulemaking notice (adopted amendments published in the Aug 28, 2026 Texas Register, 51 TexReg 5776). The direct Texas Administrative Code s.73.100 text URL was not captured verbatim, so amendments_url is blank; the one Texas amendment established is the limited GFCI exception described in the rulemaking notice. STALE PAGE WARNING: TDLR's Compliance Guide still states the 2023 NEC (effective 2023-09-01) - superseded by the 2026 adoption; do not cite it for the current edition (it is cited here only for the inspection note). 2026 NEC 230.70(A)(1) emergency disconnect: STANDS AS WRITTEN for TX - the statewide adoption instrument (16 TAC Part 4, Ch. 73) carries no (A)(1) amendment (per hunt-18 (files/journeyman/electrical/documents/hunt-18-230-70-a1-adoption-map.md), retrieved 2026-10-25).

Coded to schema v2 Option B at the 2026-10-27 wiring pass from the v1 row verbatim; the partiality is coded per-area from the row's own record and the readiness package's named gate.
